This professional development program is presented through the Alabama AIDS Education & Training Center (Alabama AETC) at the MAO Learning Center, in partnership with the Medical Advocacy & Outreach (MAO) Division of Behavioral Health.

Motivational Interviewing is a counseling method that helps people resolve ambivalent feelings and insecurities to find the internal motivation they need to change their behavior. It is a practical, empathetic, and short-term process that takes into consideration how difficult it is to make life changes. Prepare to include Motivational Interviewing in your toolbox. This dynamic professional development experience offers 4 contact hours for social workers and counselors. Partial credit will not be offered. To receive continuing education credit for your attendance you must be present for the duration of the activity and complete an immediate post-event evaluation.

- Learn the processes of Motivational Interviewing
- Apply the technique in practice using the core skills of Motivational Interviewing

About the Presenter:
Courtney Cavin obtained a Bachelors degree in Psychology from the University of Southern Mississippi and a Masters degree in Applied Psychology from the University of South Alabama. Cavin began working with The Bridge, Inc. in 2011, in the residential setting. Since then, Cavin has grown from Residential Therapist to Program Manager, Lead Therapist, and currently serves as the Coordinator for Outpatient Services in the South. Cavin is a Certified Change Agent Trainer through the Change Companies, as well as an Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor and Licensed Professional Counselor.
Medical Advocacy and Outreach (MAO) is an approved NBCC Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 6882, and an approved Continuing Education Provider with the Alabama Board of Social Worker Examiners, Provider No. 0134.
Advance registrations for this program must be made online by 6 PM on February 19th. Late registrations will require higher participation fees.
