July is Minority Mental Health Awareness Month
Published: June 28, 2022
July is Minority Mental Health Awareness Month and Medical Advocacy and Outreach (MAO) invites you to join our team to help elevate voices, to listen and better understand, and to support the unique needs and range of experiences of underrepresented parts of our global, national, state, and local communities.
Please use the month of July as a place to begin learning about the disparities in our communities and the critical need to equally support the mental health needs of everyone regardless of difference. Particularly, Black, Indigenous, People of Color, and LGBTQ community members continue to be met with stigma and fear, and are presented with inconsistent support. Excellent resources for learning and advocacy can be found at any of the following:
U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Minority Health
National Alliance on Mental Health
If you are experiencing any kind of behavioral or mental health crisis, call 911. If you need support and service referrals, call (800) 510-4704 and ask to speaking with a member of the MAO Behavioral Health Team.
