Weight loss and malnutrition continue to be common problems with HIV and can contribute to HIV disease progression. The A healthy diet improves quality of life, and good nutrition helps the body process the many medications taken by people with HIV. Good nutrition helps keep the immune system strong, enabling a person living with HIV to better fight the disease.
MAO provides needed nutritional support to people living with HIV/AIDS with food distributed through its food pantry. The MAO Food Pantry is supported, in part, by human and financial support from the Junior League of Montgomery. Although entirely contingent upon donations, the Food Pantry attempts to subsidize the nutrition of all MAO patients when needed.
If you are a patient of MAO, call 1-800-510-4704 for details. Unless otherwise deemed necessary by members of the Social Services or Copeland Care Clinic teams, MAO clients can obtain up to one prepared food box per month. Those in need are also provided with referral information for area Food Banks and related service providers.
